Fire Is This Winter’s Hottest Garnish
Watch an exclusive video of a cocktail that sets our hearts on fire.
Flaming absinthe sets our hearts (and glass) on fire.
Designated Drink
The Fairmont Chateau Whistler drinks in the Olympic legacy with a cocktail list that pays tribute to past, present and future Games.
Grappa, limoncello and mint create a splash in the Turin-inspired Grand Torino, while an icewine-infused cloud of foam sits atop the Vancouver Triple Lutz: lemon-infused blackberries bathed in a gin-and-vodka concoction with a generous swirl of maple syrup. And chilled potato vodka – distilled in the Pemberton Valley – toasts the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia. Na zdorovie!
Hell’s kitchen
The 2010 winning recipe? Pear purée, energy drink and lemongrass-infused vodka topped with an absinthe-soaked sugar cube and set on fire.
What
It’s hard to resist the hypnotic power of fire. Which is why – like moths to a flame – we’re drawn to the Four Seasons Resort Whistler for an alcoholic tribute to the Olympic torch. The 2010 Torch Cocktail is served in a copper-coloured flute and presented in mock passing-of-the-torch style. And while Thatch Tiki Bar in Portland ignites a pool of Bacardi 151 in the middle of its Volcano Bowl (think hula bowl filled with jungle juice), New York’s Apothéke gets the pyrotechnics going by setting absinthe cocktails and the length of its bar on fire every night.
